The purpose of dowel bar baskets is to transfer loads across a joint without restricting joint movement due to thermal contraction and expansion of the concrete. To develop load transfer across a joint, dowel bar baskets are placed at specified locations to assist with adequate load transfer from the pavement approach slab to the leave slab.
